The Knight's Tale

The Grand Final was held at Tynemouth Priory, Tyne and Wear. Sat 19 & Sun 20 August '06 . Their are four types of contest: Archery, Mounted Skill at Arms, Foot Combat, & Jousting. The Knight's Tournament is a real competition. It is not rehearsed or choreographed.

Serving Others

Let me introduce you to my friend Carrie Holmes.
Carrie Holmes is from South Africa married to Russ Holmes and they have two small children. Carrie doesn't normally look like this....only on special occasions.

Carrie was challenged by a speaker to seek God to reveal His calling on her life. Her's was simple: To serve those who serve others. Develop the tast buds of your mind as you view her blog that will give insights into the act of hospitality. There are only two entries, but more to come!

Donated Shelving

We received a truck load of library book shelving, computer table bases, and office chairs to be used throughout the ship.

Pastoral Care Team

The Pastoral Care Team visiting together before three of the members head to Ghana joining four members that are already on the Anastasis. It is sad to see them leave, but excited for their future service in Africa.

Home Sweet Home

Our cabin #4319 is now complete. We are just waiting to move on board. October is the latest date we have to move onboard. Our cabin is approximately 6.7 m (22 ft) x 2.7m (9 feet) with makes it seem like our own mansion. Pat is standing in the kitchen in front of the area where a small refrigerator will fit. You can see our soon to be computer desk where we can keep in communication with you'all. Pat is also trying out the bed, It seems comfortable.

In the Army Now

On July 19th Josiah graduated from the Leadership Training School in Fort Knox, Kentucky. The graduation was the culmination of demanding training. Four weeks can change a person's life; being challenged emotionally,physically and mentally. Phase I taught the basic skills necessary to participate in the next three phases. Training was conducted by drill sergents. Phase II covered adventure training which built self-confidence and unit esprit-de-corps. Phase III used field exercises to assess the cadet's leadership abilities. Phase IV introduced the cadet to the social aspect of the Army. Take a look at the graduation pictures.

Ghana Medical Screening

The challenging part sometimes is from a personal perspective versus a ministry perspective. We are challenged because we want to be on-site and directly involved with the field service to the country of Ghana first-hand. Then we are excited because as a ministry we are doing exactly that. Sometimes we have to look past ourselves and see the big picture.Although we are still working on the completion of the Africa Mercy, the Ghana field service has not been delayed! Two days of Medical Screening took place in Tema, Ghana on Monday and Tuesday (June 26-27). There, also, was a screening in Takadori, Ghana on Friday. It is estimated that over 2,000 potential patients were lined up to see the doctors by 8:00 am on Monday morning in the extremely hot Ghanaian sun!

About half of the crew of the Anastasis (many of our crew from the Africa Mercy that went ahead to Ghana) laid aside their duties on board to help with the triage,crowd control, prayer and patient escorting during the screening days. Celebration Feast

With founder of Mercy Ships Don Stevens watching, fellow crew members are enjoying the FIRST CREW LUNCH on board the ship in the main dining room. It is a taste of what it will be like when we begin living on the ship in the near future. What a delicious beginning!

Please Pray

Please, please help us pray for our dear friend Elizabeth and her husband, Jan. Elizabeth is from the Dominican Republic and we served together for several years with Mercy Ships. She recently married Jan, from the Netherlands and they are presently in Amsterdam. Early Monday morning Elizabeth had to have an emergency c-section. The baby, Grace Isabella, weighs slightly less than 4 pounds but is doing well but Elizabeth is very ill with pre-eclampsia related issues! She has had surgery 4 times since the c-section and she is presently on life support. PLEASE PRAY WITH US FOR A FULL RECOVERY!!!!!
